RED SCARF GIRL
Jiang Ji-Li was born on Chinese New Year, a very lucky day. She lived during the Cultural Revolution. This book takes place in 1966, when she is 12 years old. Ji-Li was living a wonderful life with her family until the Cultural Revolution came to China. Her family’s bad background led to trouble at her home. She has two siblings, her parents, and a living grandmother. She highly respected her teachers, was a model student, dreamed of becoming a Red Guard.

Chairman Mao was the leader of China’s Cultural Revolution. He was a respected and well known person that families during the Cultural Revolution looked up to. He wanted to destroy the Fourolds that inhabited China. The Chinese dreamed of seeing Chairman Mao. People chanted “Long live Chairman Mao” because they truly believed that he was changing China forever.
